Communities like ours in the High Desert and Inland Empire desperately need better access to affordable and quality healthcare. California - and our rural district in particular - is unique. A one-size-fits-all Washington approach does not work for the disparate communities like ours. We must support the development of a personalized, patient-centered healthcare system, including better access to telehealth services. We also need fiscally responsible healthcare policies and commonsense initiatives that empower patients, increase choices, and lower health care costs without reducing benefits. As your representative, I will continue to fight for legislation that ensures a sustainable health care delivery system for our nation, improves access to care in rural communities, and supports the needs of all Americans.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Representatives Jay Obernolte (R-California) and Debbie Dingell (D-Michigan) introduced the Improving Care Utilization Through Bed Exchange and Data Sharing Act of 2026, or ICU Bed Act of 2026, bipartisan legislation to strengthen hospital coordination, reduce delays in care, and improve patient outcomes by requiring real-time reporting of intensive care unit (ICU) bed availability.

U.S. Congressman Jay Obernolte (R-Hesperia) questioned top leaders in the drug supply chain at a hearing of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce’s Health Subcommittee to address the underlying economic drivers of generic drug shortages. The hearing follows Rep. Obernolte’s recent meeting with his Health Advisory Committee where High Desert and Inland Empire health care providers indicated drug shortages were a top concern for hospitals.
