U.S. Congressmen Jay Obernolte (CA-23) led his Congressional colleagues in calling for Governor Newsom to issue a state disaster declaration in response to historic winter storms. The official request for the governor to declare a State of Emergency for the mountain areas was signed by Reps. Kevin Kiley (CA-03), Ken Calvert (CA-41), Darrell Issa (CA-48), Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), Tom McClintock (CA-05), David Valadao (CA-22), Young Kim (CA-40), Michelle Steel (CA-45), John Duarte (CA-13) and Mike Garcia (CA-27).

U.S. Congressman Jay Obernolte (CA-23) reintroduced his Protecting Against Compromised IOT Technology Act on Thursday to protect American consumers and businesses from products that could be manipulated or compromised by foreign actors. The bill requires regular oversight of companies that sell “Internet of Things” (IOT) devices such as internet-connected refrigerators, smart thermostats and home security cameras to prevent compromised products from entering American homes.

U.S. Congressman Jay Obernolte (CA-23) reintroduced the Protect American Trade Secrets Act on Monday to help companies protect their trade secrets from overseas theft, including at the hands of the Chinese Communist Party. The bill will ensure companies can sue individuals and organizations found to be stealing U.S. trade secrets, including the commission of intellectual property (IP) theft, regardless of where they reside or may have fled to.

The bill would enhance the Department of Energy’s accountability to Congress and the public when awarding grant funding and waiving cost-sharing requirements.

U.S. Representatives Jay Obernolte (R-CA) and Tony Cárdenas (D-CA) have introduced H.R. 498, the 9-8-8 Lifeline Cybersecurity Responsibility Act.  This bill would improve cybersecurity at the national suicide hotline following an outage of the system in December as the result of a cyberattack on system operator Intrado.

U.S. Congressman Jay Obernolte (R-Hesperia) has reintroduced his Finding Federal Savings Committee Resolution to help bring fiscal responsibility back to the federal government. The bill is modeled after the post-World War II era Anti-Appropriations Committee and would establish a bipartisan committee within the U.S. House of Representatives to find and recommend the modification or elimination of underperforming and nonessential federal programs.

On Thursday, U.S. Congressman Jay Obernolte (R-Hesperia) reintroduced his constitutional amendment to balance the federal budget and return fiscal responsibility to the federal government. H.J. Res. 15, known as the Obernolte Balanced Budget Amendment, would amend the U.S. Constitution to ensure total federal spending for any fiscal year, as appropriated by Congress, does not exceed the amount of federal revenue.
