Rep. Obernolte secures $11 million for CA-08 projects including $800,000 for the Adelanto Wastewater Treatment Plant
U.S. Congressman Jay Obernolte (CA-08) secured $11 million in funding for projects in California’s 8th District that passed the U.S. House of Representatives as part of this week’s major appropriations package. This includes $800,000 for Adelanto’s wastewater treatment plant.
“With California seeing worsening drought conditions across our state, it is more critical now than ever that we take steps to conserve water wherever possible and treat wastewater to reuse for other purposes,” said Rep. Obernolte. “In Adelanto, retooling of our facilities can help us to reach this goal and conserve our valuable water resources. I am encouraged to see these funds included in the final House bill and look forward to continuing to fight to ensure the needs of Adelanto and all our CA-08 communities are met.”
“This funding will not only help us complete an unfinished project, but it will also greatly expand Adelanto’s water distribution capabilities. Additional irrigation water will support a number of community needs, including two future public parks that are ideally situated to benefit from the increased water access,” said Adelanto Contract City Engineer Brian Wolfe.
Adelanto’s wastewater treatment plant, located in the northeast portion of the city between Highway 395 and the former George Air Force Base, began working to provide tertiary water for irrigation purposes in 2010. Original capital infrastructure improvements failed to yield satisfactory results and attempts to provide irrigation water were put on hold. The $800,000 in funding will provide the means for rehabilitating and retooling existing infrastructure to improve results and meet treatment goals that will allow the city of Adelanto to further conserve water.
