Rep. Obernolte secures $11 million for CA-08 projects including $2 million for Victoria Avenue Improvements in the City of Highland

July 30, 2021

U.S. Congressman Jay Obernolte (CA-08) secured $11 million dollars in funding for projects in California’s 8th District that passed the U.S. House of Representatives as part of this week’s major appropriations package. This includes $2 million for the Victoria Avenue Improvements Project in the City of Highland.

“Rural areas such as California’s 8th District have historically received less funding per capita than urban areas, which is unfair. Securing funds for projects like this is critical to improving the quality of life in rural California and supporting the needs of the people who call our community home,” said Rep. Obernolte.

“The City of Highland is very excited and grateful to be working with Congressman Obernolte and his staff on this important project for our City. The proposed improvements for Victoria Avenue will positively benefit the citizens and businesses in Highland and surrounding jurisdictions,” said Highland Mayor Penny Lilburn.

The $2 million in funding will go towards improvements on Victoria Avenue between 9th Street and Highland Avenue, including pavement reconstruction, curbs, gutters, driveways, sidewalks, a raised median, wet and dry utilities and undergrounding of existing utility lines. Design of the project is currently at 85 percent completion.
