Rep. Obernolte helps to craft a future built on freedom

September 26, 2022

U.S. Congressman Jay Obernolte (R-Hesperia) joined Congressional Republicans on Friday in celebrating the unveiling of their Commitment to America, the forward-looking policy agenda culminating from the work of Congressional task forces over the past two years. Rep. Obernolte helped to lead the crafting of technology provisions included in the plan as part of the Big Tech Task Force. The new policy plan fights to provide greater privacy and data security protections, equip parents with more tools to keep their kids safe online, and stop companies from putting politics ahead of people.

“The advent of social media has shifted the way people communicate and connect, but it has also created significant problems unique to our digital era. We cannot let free speech go by the wayside as platforms attempt to moderate content,” said Rep. Obernolte. “We are also taking on the big questions of privacy and developmental influences of social media and internet platforms on our children. We are fighting to put parents back in the driver’s seat when it comes to protecting their children online and will help to ensure Americans know where and how their data is being used.”

The Commitment to America puts forth four key pillars of Republican policy designed to put America back on track. It fights for basic principles that the majority of Americans can get behind: an economy that’s strong, a nation that’s safe, a future that’s built on freedom and a government that’s accountable.
