April 11, 2024

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Jay Obernolte (CA-23) has been appointed to serve on the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce.

“It is an honor to have been selected to serve on the Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce,” said Rep. Obernolte. “America is the global leader in the digital economy, and we must ensure that there are guardrails to protect the data of all Americans without hindering the investments and future innovations in digital technologies that are needed to maintain our leadership. I am looking forward to working with Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Subcommittee Chairman Gus Bilirakis on this critical endeavor.”

Chair McMorris Rodgers said, "Rep. Obernolte is a leading voice on tech in the House — especially on issues that are critical for America to win the future — like artificial intelligence and online privacy protections. I look forward to continuing our work together as he joins the IDC Subcommittee to advance solutions that will make life better for the American people."

“We are delighted to welcome Representative Jay Obernolte as the newest Member of the House Innovation, Data and Commerce Subcommittee,” said Chairman Bilirakis. “I am confident that Jay’s business acumen as an entrepreneur in the tech field will serve as an invaluable resource as we advance our subcommittee’s priorities, including: strengthening Americans’ privacy rights through the adoption of a nationwide privacy standard, increasing safeguards to protect children online, empowering parents with more tools to keep their kids safe, and embracing America-First policies that give American businesses a competitive edge in harnessing the potential of technological advancements, such as AI, to boost innovation and facilitate continued American dominance.”

The House Energy and Commerce Committee is at the forefront of issues and policies powering America’s economy, including our global competitive edge in energy, technology, and healthcare. In addition to sitting on Energy and Commerce’s Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce, Rep. Obernolte serves on the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, and the Subcommittee on Health.
